PokerRoom is Back and Offering Fantastic Poker Tournament Action

Tuesday Jan 17, 2012

It’s back! PokerRoom.com is making a big return and with it comes many different types of tournaments to whet your appetite for some fun, money making opportunities.

While playing the casual or slightly competitive game of five card draw or online Texas Holdem can be exciting, every once in a while the typical online poker player needs to mix things up. PokerRoom.com offers a wide variety of different online poker tournaments. Two of the most common offerings on PokerRoom are the Freeze out and the re-buy. These two types of tournaments are the complete opposite of each other but both can provide excitement for different types of players.

First, the freeze out is probably the most common type of cash poker tournament and is back at PokerRoom. These are the type of cash tournaments that are typically seen on televised poker coverage. The deal is there are no re-buy ins or add-ons. So once you lose all your chips, you are done for the tournament. However, if you eliminate a player, they can also not re-enter the tournament and you are one player closer to winning the tournament.

This may seem like a tough deal for some beginner players, but this is the most widespread tournament. In fact, the term freeze out is usually not even used when describing a regular online poker tournament. PokerRoom’s website states that since this is the most common type of tournament, players should assume that these buy in rules apply for most tournaments, even if it is not explicitly stated.

A re-buy is the exact opposite. In this type of tournament, players are actually allowed to buy back into the tournament within a set time limit. For example, if you were playing in a re-buy and you really wanted the tournament because of the prize or felt you were playing well but you were just getting unlucky, you could buy back in. However, the time limit does come into affect. PokerRoom typically limits the option to buy back in to the first hour of the tournament, although there are some exceptions.

These tournaments are also a good opportunity for players of different abilities, but can get more competitive. The level of competition can change quickly. For example, if one player decides to both buy back in and purchase an “add on,” they are most likely trying very hard to win the tournament. An add on is offered once per player to purchase more chips after the re-buy period is over.

Both of these types of tournaments are quite common on PokerRoom.com and will be a part of their game plan going into the future. Since the website has been re-launched, the amount of action in tournaments like these will only increase over the upcoming weeks and month; providing plenty of opportunities for both established and brand new members to get a piece of the excitement of poker online. Players should also take advantage of PokerRoom’s welcome promotions and Poker School. The welcome bonuses can provide new members with free tournament tickets. In addition, the Poker School can help virtually every player craft a strategy for different types of tournaments and opponents.
